About

Handmade Mulberry Paper | Sand

We recently fell in love with something truly special—handmade mulberry paper from Tengchong, China. It’s not your typical gift wrap; it has this amazing sand-like finish, soft yet strong, feeling like a mix between silk and cotton. After seeing it in person, we just knew we had to share it with you.

On our trip to Tengchong in Yunnan Province, we had the chance to explore the incredible world of traditional papermaking. We met Mr. Long, a master craftsman whose family has been making this paper for 20 generations! In his cozy home workshop, he walked us through every step of the process, even teaching us how to ‘抄纸’ (chao zhi), where you sift pulp from water using a bamboo screen to form a sheet. Let’s just say, it’s harder than it looks!

Hearing Mr. Long’s stories and seeing his passion for this ancient craft really moved us. It got us thinking—why not bring this beautiful paper into our everyday lives? Instead of regular gift wrap, why not try something with a natural, handmade touch?

Now, every sheet of this paper feels like a little piece of history and care. We hope you’ll love using it to wrap your gifts (or for any creative project!) as much as we loved discovering it. It’s more than just paper—it’s a story waiting to be shared.

We’re so surrounded by information today that it’s easy to forget how challenging it once was to find a way to record it all. Last week, we headed to Tengchong, a small city on the border of China...
