About

Carp Leaps into the Dragon's Gate

In ancient legends, it is said that when carp in the Yellow River leap over the Dragon Gate (referring to the narrowest part of the Yellow River in the Jinshan Grand Canyon, known today as Yumenkou), they transform into dragons. The Pi Ya, a classical Chinese dictionary, notes, 'It is commonly believed that only the carp has this chance to become a dragon.'

Later, the expression 'carp leaping over the Dragon Gate' was metaphorically used to describe achieving success, passing an exam, or rising in official rank. Over time, it has also been used metaphorically to describe advancing against the current, making determined efforts, and symbolizing steady progress and advancement.

**NOTE** The measurements displayed in the chart represent the printing area only. If you opt for the framed option, please note that the overall dimensions of the artwork will be larger, with an additional 6cm in width and 8cm in height.
